On April 16th, CrossFitHQ announced the 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games would have a reduced field and relocate to Aromas, California — where the first three CrossFit Games were held — and the Games would be closed to the public in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Two weeks later, it was announced that there would be no age group (including Masters and Teens) competition at the 2020 CrossFit Games, leaving some to question if whether or not Team competition would still be happening as well.
On May 10, it was announced that the invites to the 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games would be reset and that the Team competition was officially cancelled.
“Due to current limitations on social gatherings, and professional sport in particular, the field of athletes in attendance will be reduced. There will not be a Team competition at the 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games.”
That same day, 4-time CrossFit Games Team Champion Rich Froning of Team Mayhem Freedom announced Mayhem Madness— a CrossFit sanctioned team-only competition to take place in August — via his Instagram page:
