February 24, 2022 by Phil Blechman

On Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, the first workout of the 2022 CrossFit Open — workout 22.1 — was released at 3:00 p.m. EST. Athletes’ scores will be listed on the CrossFit leaderboard. The announcement for workout 22.1 can be viewed on the CrossFit Games website.

Participating athletes worldwide have until 8:00 p.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, to submit their videos for review. Watch the full 22.1 announcement in the video below, courtesy of the CrossFit Games YouTube channel, featuring Patrick Vellner, Noah Ohlsen, Danielle Brandon, and Bethany Shadburne.

Rx’d

15-minute AMRAP of the following triplet:

  • 3 wall walks
  • 12 dumbbell snatches — Men: 50 pounds | Women: 35 pounds
  • 15 box jump-overs — Men: 24-inch box | Women: 20-inch box

Scores are tabulated by the total number of repetitions within the 15-minute time cap. A new movement standard is implemented for the box jump-overs: athletes must deliberately step down off the box each rep; jumping off to rebound back up is disallowed.

As Ohlsen and Vellner squared off, it was clear early on in their workouts that the workout was very high volume and athletes should plan accordingly. Both athletes were already into their fourth round before the fourth minute. Considering that the workout will last 15 minutes no matter what, finding a maintainable pace is a likely key to success. For context, Vellner scored 11 total rounds, Brandon got two reps into round 12.
