Adaptive Athlete Logan Aldridge Deadlifts 502 Pounds During Day One of 2021 CrossFit Games

July 28, 2021 by Andrew Gutman

Warning: The following clip of CrossFitter Logan Aldridge deadlifting 502 pounds may cause inspiration, motivation, and, in extreme cases, provoke the reader to run through a wall on their way to the gym. On July 27, 2021, the first day of the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games, Aldridge set a 12-pound deadlift PR, using a strap that connects to the bar and loops around his left shoulder, during event three of the Games for the Age Group and Adaptive Divisions.

This is the first year that the Games features an Adaptive Division, making the lift at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI, all the more special. Ultimately, Aldridge came in second place in the event and sits in third place overall with 185 points.

Aldridge — who is missing most of his left arm — competes in the Upper Extremity class of the new Adaptive Division. At the start of the 2021 CrossFit season, CrossFit announced that adaptive athletes across eight classes (for both men and women) were cleared to compete in the Open. As for participating at the Games, that may have to wait until 2022 (due to logistics), CrossFit said. And then, on May 5, 2021, CrossFit announced that the top five men and women from the Open in three adaptive classes — Upper Extremity, Lower Extremity, and Neuromuscular — were headed to Wisconsin for a shot at Games glory.

As the Director of Training of the Adaptive Training Academy (ATA), Aldridge and the ATA were integral in ensuring CrossFit could add the division to their 2021 season and beyond. According to Aldridge, many logistics go into organizing events for eight different classes with varied requirements. But now the top adaptive athletes in the world are at the Games, absolutely crushing PRs.

This is the second PR Aldridge has set in a month. Back in mid-June, Aldridge hit a 225-pound clean & jerk at the 2021 Bacon Beatdown competition.
