Abbie Domit Wins West Coast Classic, Embarks on the Toughest Two Months of the CrossFit Season
A handful of months after her first CrossFit workout, Abbie Domit told her husband that she wanted to make a real go of it: train full-time, qualify, and compete at the CrossFit Games.
- To repeat: this was only months after she had tried CrossFit for the first time.
Her husband didn’t bat an eye and never questioned or doubted her. Instead, he pushed her to set the bar as high as she could.
He encouraged her to focus on qualifying for the Games, challenging the elites, and securing a legitimate placing once there.
And in her sophomore season as a Games competitor, Domit is doing just that.
Last month, Domit won the West Coast Classic. This secured her a second consecutive ticket to the CrossFit Games, which will be held in Fort Worth, TX, just a four-hour drive for the San Antonio resident.

Breaking Onto the Scene
Domit qualified for Semifinals in 2022 in only her second competitive season (she competed in the Open in 2021). She took 16th place at the 2022 Syndicate Crown.
In 2023, she qualified for Semifinals once again and finished eighth at the North America West Semifinal, including a top-five event finish.
- As a rookie at the 2023 CrossFit Games, Domit took 26th place, falling below the cutline on Saturday night, unable to finish out the weekend.
Despite feeling like she was as ready as she possibly could be, the emotional stress of the impending cuts wore on her.
- “Nothing could have prepared me for the highs and lows of the cutline,” Domit told the Morning Chalk Up in an interview. “You knew it was there, but you just couldn’t prepare. It affected my recovery so much.”
Experience Breeds Preparedness
When Domit reflects on her rookie season and compares it to this season, she sees an athlete with crucial experience under her belt, which might make all the difference.
- “I’m more confident. That’s how it’s been this whole season,” Domit said. “And last year, it was just go in head-first and do it. There was no way to really prepare myself mentally never having been there. But having lived that and gone through the Games and the training, it has given me the confidence that I can do anything.”
Heading into her second appearance at the Games, she’s shifting her focus and is taking a more level-headed approach when in the thick of it all.

- “This time, I’m going to see it all differently. If I have a bad or even a good event, I have to stay neutral. It’s a long weekend, and you have to maintain your endurance to get through it,” Domit said.
The mental aspects of CrossFit are just as key as the physical ones. To that end, Domit had some advice for the rookies who will be setting foot on the competition floor this August for the first time.
- “It’s so important to take it day by day, event by event,” Domit said. “I went in thinking that I was as prepared as I possibly could be, but just know that you’re going to experience and feel things that you just couldn’t have prepared for — and you have to be ok with that.”
The Bottom Line
Domit’s star has been rising: placing higher throughout each stage of the CrossFit Games season, winning the West Coast Classic, and marking one year as an athlete in the Lab Management stable.
When asked what she has on the docket between now and August, she shared that the time between Semifinals and the Games will be equal parts challenging and rewarding.
“Over the next two months, and as soon as I get to [Fort Worth], I get to explore the depths of my mental and physical capabilities, which feels incredible, and [I’m] so grateful for it,” she said.
