Asia CrossFit Championship Announces 2020 Cancellation, Tally Reaches Seven
The Asia CrossFit Championship sent an email to registered athletes on Monday, officially canceling its Sanctioned event for the 2019-2020 season. It was originally scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China, May 8-10, but had already been postponed until July 3-5. Seven Sanctionals have now been canceled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
One big thing: As with earlier cancelations, this puts the Asia CrossFit Championship in a less than ideal financial position. The second-year Sanctional will, however, issue full refunds to all registered competitors in May.
From the email: “With the current unprecedented global situation, Asia CrossFit Championships has decided to postpone the Main Event without a future date at this time.”
- “This decision is made with our utmost consideration of the safety of our Athletes, Staff and Spectators.”
- “Registered competitor’s final competition fees will be fully refunded. The refund will be processed on May 1st, you can expect to receive the refund in a week.”
The bottom line: The Asia CrossFit Championship was the first Sanctional to announce a postponement on March 3. While it seems that many events are holding off announcing an official cancelation, it is likely we will see many more in the days and weeks to come.
