Norway Sweetens the Pot With Qualifier Prize Money
If the prospect of seeing the northern lights isn’t enough to convince you to throw your hat in the ring for the Norwegian CrossFit Championship qualifier, event organizers announced cash prizes and gear for each qualifier workout.
The details: Athletes and teams must attend the competition to receive payouts.
- Male RX/Female RX/Team RX: €300 per event
- Male RX/Female RX/Team RX: Overall online qualifier winner will get free hotel and food at the NCC.
- Masters 35-39: Partner prizes
- Masters 40+: Partner prizes
- Community: Partner prizes
- Community Scaled: Partner prizes
In case you forgot: The NCC is one of more than a dozen Sanctionals using the Open workouts for their qualifier.
The bottom line: The prizes will be paid in person at the NCC final in February, and athletes have to attend the event to receive their prize. With flights from the United States and Canada to Norway currently in the $400-$600 range, a couple wins in the qualifier helps offset the cost of the trip for elite athletes to make the trip to Norway.
A handful of events already offer prize money for their online qualifier, but more events finding ways to do so through sponsor money is a win for all sides. Athletes get help with the burden of funding their trips to compete, and events can provide incentives to draw talent to their competition through strategic partnerships with sponsors.
