Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr Trains In Her Brand New Gym
Taking a break from competitive CrossFit for the majority of the 2023 CrossFit Games season due to her pregnancy, six-time Fittest Woman on Earth® Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr secured a commendable second-place finish at the 2023 Rogue Invitational behind the reigning CrossFit Games champion Laura Horvath.
With the 2024 CrossFit Games season kicking off with the CrossFit Open on Feb. 29, 2024, Toomey-Orr is rebuilding her conditioning during the holidays. She published a video on her YouTube channel in early December, sharing a training session in her new custom-built garage gym in Australia. Check it out below:
Toomey-Orr emphasized the importance of training with friends and fellow athletes. She trained alongside Jay Crouch and Madeline Sturt for the 2023 Rogue Invitational.
Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr’s Training Session
Here is a snapshot of Toomey-Orr’s workout:
Circuit One
- Front Squats (with pause)
- Snatch
Circuit Two — Two Six-Minute AMRAPs
- GHDs
- Clean & Jerk
- Ring Muscle-Up
- Kettlebell Reverse Lunge
- Bar Muscle-Up
Circuit Three — 16-Minute EMOM (Skill and Accessory Work)
- Hex Bar Deadlift
- Strict Pull-Up
- Leg-Less Rope Climb
Circuit Four
- Pilates
Toomey-Orr’s heart rate soared during the initial circuit. She lowered the volume on the front squat and snatches, but that didn’t improve her heart rate until the lunges of her second circuit.
I’m just slowly getting back into it…I need to put…more effort into it.
Toomey-Orr does not have any training restrictions postpartum. She was able to perform every exercise a month and a half before the 2023 Rogue Invitational. However, she closely watched how her body responded to certain exercises, as her recovery and ability on certain movements, like back squats, took longer than expected.
Toomey-Orr prefers not to have air conditioners in her home gym. Training without air conditioning is more closely aligned with the experience during competition, especially as the CrossFit Games are held outdoors. The 2024 CrossFit Games will be held in Fort Worth, TX, on Aug. 1-2, 2024.
Toomey-Orr and her husband/coach, Shane Orr, intend to limit travel during the 2024 CrossFit Games season to prioritize training and time with their newborn daughter. Toomey-Orr acknowledged that 2022 was among the most challenging years of her CrossFit career, but the support from her coaches at PRVN Fitness was crucial for her to navigate it.
Despite her challenges ahead, Toomey expressed a renewed sense of enjoyment in her training, attributing this change to her new role as a mother. She emphasized the joy of training while setting a positive example for her daughter.
