Early Season Report: Athletes Clear Nearly $600K in Payouts

January 7, 2020 by BarBend Team

With an increase in the number of Sanctionals from 15 to 27 there will inevitably be more money up for grabs this season. If the CrossFit Open and CrossFit Games are included, there are a total of 29 money-making opportunities inside the 10-month-long Games season.

  • One caveat to tracking these are the additional prizes earned in online qualifiers like the Dubai CrossFit Championship and Norwegian CrossFit Championship. We are not currently able to track them in our system.
  • $3,072,856: The total prize money earned by individual athletes during the 2018-2019 season.
  • Approximately $2.3 million is up for grabs at the CrossFit Games for individuals. The final number is determined by the number of individual events since athletes can earn $3000, $2000, and $1000 for placing first, second or third.
  • Track all payouts on our season payout leaderboard.

How athletes are doing so far: A total of $592,796 has been paid out so far this season after only four Sanctionals. There are still 23 remaining on the calendar. By the way, athletes don’t win any money for winning the CrossFit Open overall, only by winning an individual week’s event.

Men

  1. Brent Fikowski — $64,500
  2. Patrick Vellner — $49,000
  3. Roman Khrennikov — $37,500
  4. Lazar Dukic — $22,500
  5. Jeffrey Adler — $15,020
  6. Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson — $12,500
  7. Justin Medeiros — $12,000
  8. Jonne Koski — $11,500
  9. Tola Morakinyo — $10,500
  10. Jason Smith — $7,500

Women

  1. Sara Sigmundsdottir — $87,000
  2. Sam Briggs — $44,520
  3. Karin Frey — $38,500
  4. Jamie Greene — $24,000
  5. Gabriela Migala — $11,500
  6. Emily Rolfe — $10,500
  7. Kristin Holte — $8,020
  8. Julie Hougard — $7,500
  9. Alessandra Pichelli — $6,500
  10. Emma McQuaid — $6,020

One big thing: The potential earnings have increased significantly since last year’s $3,072,856 total payout. This isn’t just due to adding 12 more money-making opportunities, it’s also because a handful of new events have significantly increased their prize purses.

  • Loud and Live’s five events are dishing out a total of $1,284,860, with Sanctionals wins netting between $5,000 (lowest) to $50,000 (highest) for the top podium finish. They’re also paying down to 10th place and event wins at Wodapalooza and West Coast Classic.
  • Ireland’s Filthy150 paid $12,000 to the winner, and Reykjavik increased its purse to around $8100.
  • We still don’t have the complete picture of what payouts will be as more than half of the Sanctionals haven’t released the details.
