The bodybuilding world had been showing support for longtime bodybuilding coach and competitor, John Meadows, in the day following the announcement that he had suffered a heart attack and was admitted to an Ohio hospital.
On May 12, Meadows’ wife, Mary, had once again shared an update on the Mountain Dog’s verified Facebook page. While there were no issues regarding plaque, he did have clots which are believed to have led to his current situation.
“Update on John’s condition. His arteries have no plaque buildup, but he did have 2 massive blood clots blocking 2 arteries. He has been in constant pain, but today they were able to clear one of the arteries. They are going to try again tomorrow on the other. This could be tied to the blood disorder from 2005 when he lost his colon. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support in these hard times. Please help me get word out and share. – Mary”
The blood disorder from 2005 that Mary referred to was when Meadows was diagnosed with a rare disease called “Idiopathic Myonintimal Hyperplasia of the Mesenteric Veins.” Among the issues that led to his colon being removed were blood clots traveling to his intestines and lodging themselves.
Meadows’ doctors and family still feel that he will recover from this once they remove the other clot but are still being cautious going forward. In the meantime, fans as well as more of his fellow competitors and notable friends in the bodybuilding world have offered support.
“Everyone please keep @mountaindog1 and family in prayers! He suffered a heart attack earlier today and is in the hospital. He’s been an amazing friend to me and my training coach for many years and I’m sure he’s motivated some of you as well, so please keep him in thought.” Shaun Clarida – IFBB Pro League 212 Bodybuilder
“Get well soon brother @mountaindog1 ! John suffered a heart attack today and is in the hospital now. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.” – Steve Kuclo, IFBB Pro League Open Bodybuilder
“Prayers for his fast and complete recovery.” – Milos Sarcev, retired IFBB Pro League bodybuilder and current bodybuilding coach
