The second fittest woman on earth from 2019 officially returned to the competition floor this past Saturday, as Norway’s Kristin Holte took the top overall spot at the ATA Games 2020 in what was also the first live competition to take place since worldwide restrictions were put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Holte’s return was also significant for the fact that the 2019 silver medalist had been recovering from surgery on her left wrist for carpal-tunnel syndrome back in January, and plans on competing next week in the Rogue Invitational.
Norway’s fittest woman showed no signs of rust across the four events in total that made up the entirety of the one-day competition. She finished every event in third place or higher – including two event wins — to easily win the competition ahead of second-place Lena Richter.
For many in the community, getting to see one of the best in the sport back on the competition floor healthy once again was a nice respite from the muzzled routines of life during a pandemic, and gave hope for a sense of normalcy as countries and states begin to re-open following loosened restrictions.
“You always appreciate things more after they have been taken away from you,” reflected Holte after the weekend, “So I was just super happy to be able to be out on the competition floor and I was able to really enjoy the experience.”
Holte will now set her focus on the Rogue Invitational and will have the luxury of being the only athlete in the field to have touched any sort of competition since March and the cancellation of 13 other events that were to have taken place before then.
