Sister, Sister
WHO?
No, not Tia and Tamera Mowry, the stars of the 90’s hit sitcom Sister, Sister.
We’re talking about Alexandra and Victoria Thornton, the high school junior and sixth grade national weightlifting champions.
CHAMPIONS YOU SAY?
We sure did. A few months ago, the two competed at the USA Weightlifting Youth National Championships. Victoria, the 6th grader snatched 79 pounds and clean and jerked 95 pounds to take Gold. Her older sister, high school junior Alexandra, took bronze with a 163 pound snatch and 194 pound clean and jerk.
But Alexandra has been competing for years now and recently her younger sister is following in her footsteps.
HOW’D THEY GET STARTED?
In one word: CrossFit.
In two words: Their father. His two passions in life: “his wife and six kids, and CrossFit.”
Fun fact, back in 2014, at 12-years-old Alexandra beat two-time Olympian Chad Vaughn to see who could hold the most national records.
Dang, sister. Strong women, may we know them, may we raise them.
