CrossFit Games Invites From 2019 Sanctionals

After four Sanctionals, a handful of teams and athletes have qualified through the new Sanctionals system. Because the CrossFit Open leaderboard has not been finalized yet, these are not official but represent the most likely scenario given no additional changes. At this time, no changes are expected.

Men: The only athlete who’s really up in the air is Tola Morakinyo, who’s invite is dependent on three athletes deciding to go team which is all but a foregone conclusion at this point.

  1. Justin Medeiros — Filthy 150
  2. Khan Porter — Pandaland CrossFit Challenge
  3. Pete Shaw — SouthFit CrossFit Challenge
  4. Tola Morakinyo — Dubai CrossFit Championship

Women

  1. Andrea Solberg — Filthy 150
  2. Harriet Roberts — Pandaland CrossFit Challenge
  3. Bethany Shadburne — SouthFit CrossFit Challenge
  4. Samantha Briggs — Dubai CrossFit Championship

Team: The teams are really set in stone barring a situation of a team declining of failing the drug test.

  1. ROMWOD Meat Squad (Brooke Haas, Christian Harris, Kelly Baker, and Dex Hopkins) — Filthy 150
  2. Team Butchers Lab (Rebecka Vitesson, Louise Wickstrom, Andre Houdet, and Julian Kragh-Magschvitsz) — Pandaland CrossFit Challenge
  3. Odd Squad (Alexis Johnson, Emily Tanner, Jordan Cook and Brandon Luckett) — SouthFit CrossFit Challenge
  4. MisFit P10 Performance (Travis Williams, Roy Gamboa, Andrea Nisler and Taylor Williamson) — Dubai CrossFit Championship

  • Sigmundsdottir, Fikowski, MisFit P10 Performance Dominate in the Desert, Briggs and Morakinyo Earn Invite
  • Roberts, Porter, and Butchers Lab Conquer Pandaland, Book Trip To The Games

“Four Sanctionals Join Second International Online Qualifier,” by Tommy Marquez, Morning Chalk Up

This season’s International Online Qualifier (IOQ) was the first of its kind, allowing four Sanctionals to join forces and streamline the qualification process under a unified banner that included six workouts over the course of three weeks. Now in 2020, the IOQ will return for round two, featuring four more sanctioned events happening in the latter half of the season.

The Dates: March 23 – April 1, 2020.
The Events: The Granite Games, Asbury Park Summer Games, Madrid CrossFit Championship, Mayan CrossFit Classic.
The Cost: $20 per event, $80 total for all events involved.
Registration: Opens January 8, 2020.

The implications: The creation of a second IOQ brings the total number of Sanctionals involved in a qualifier collaboration to eight, or nearly a third of the season’s total. Increased collaboration amongst events has a host of benefits to all that are involved.

Dylan Malitsky, Loud and Live VP of Strategic Development: “It allows events and event organizers to save resources, and to amplify the message across multiple unique audiences, social or otherwise.”

Four of the five Loud and Live Sanctionals have joined in on the IOQ collaborations, with Wodapalooza being the only one that was involved in the first IOQ.

The bottom line: By having two separate IOQ qualifiers, it allows events to coordinate better based on timing given that the first IOQ took place just a few weeks after the Games in August. All four events take place in the latter part of the season, with Madrid being the first chronologically on May 22-24, 2020.
