Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and Jeffrey Adler Announced as First Athletes to Compete at TYR Wodapalooza SoCal

July 10, 2024 by Nicky Freymond

On Tuesday, the TYR Wodapalooza team announced six-time champion Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and current Fittest on Earth Jeffrey Adler as the first two athletes set to represent the teams competing in California this September at TYR Wodapalooza SoCal.

  • Toomey-Orr is first up on the “World” team roster, while Adler will be on the opposing “North America” team.

Remind me: While TYR Wodaplooza has a long history in Miami, FL, the TYR WZA team has expanded its reach and is headed to Huntington Beach, CA, this fall for the inaugural TYR Wodapalooza SoCal.

  • The TYR Cup takes center stage at the competition, as it features a new team format, with rosters made up of the best CrossFit athletes in the world.

How it works: The TYR Cup is a head-to-head style competition featuring two teams: “World” and “North America.”

Each team will be comprised of eight individuals — four elite men and four elite women. As stated on the TYR Wodapalooza website, each team is “anchored by one male and one female captain.”

  • Team captains get to choose the fourth and final man and woman to join their team.

The workouts: The TYR Cup will feature six workouts, each with its own distinct format:

  • Individual: For the “Individual” workout, all 16 athletes will compete and scores will be totaled. The team with the highest score wins.
  • All Hands: For this workout, all eight members of the team will work together. Think synchronized movements or a worm.
  • Spotlight: One man and one woman will be nominated by their teammates based on their expertise in weightlifting, gymnastics, and mono-structural movements.
  • Miami Team: Teams select three athletes per gender to take on a TYR Wodapalooza team-of-three-style workout.
  • CFG Team: Teams select two men and two women, CrossFit Games-style, to tackle the workout.
  • Captains: Each team’s male and female captains will combine forces to try to snag the win for their team.

The workouts will take place over three days, September 20-22, 2024.

Prize purse: With an impressive purse totaling $210,000, the TYR Cup champions will win $160,000, with each athlete walking away with $20,000.

  • The “runner-up” team will receive $40,000 total, and one athlete, deemed the “MVP,” will receive an additional $10,000.

The bottom line: Fans look forward to further announcements in the coming weeks including additional teammates, the captains, and workout details.
