The Granite Games are officially underway. The Granite Games are one of the final CrossFit Sanctional™ events before the 2019 CrossFit Games this summer. The Granite Games championship runs from May 30th through June 2nd at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and will determine which male, female, and team will be going to the Games in August.
You can watch the Granite Games live on FloElite, or follow along with the action on their social channel @thegranitegames.
The Granite Games have existed as an event in the CrossFit space since 2011 when it first came to life in a CrossFit affiliate. This year, though, it is an official path to the Games and is one of the three Sanctional™ events held in the United States. This final stretch of the Granite Games only features the best of the best after the Granite Games Throwdown (held on January 12th, 2019), and the Granite Games Open (held from April 10th through April 24th, 2019) weeded out the top athletes for the championship.
The Granite Games Throwdown was a one-day event which featured four team workouts, and was held in 31 states across the U.S. The event was separated into two different divisions, the scaled division and the intermediate division. The scaled division was designed for novice CrossFit athletes, while the intermediate division was made for those familiar and even masters in the sport.
The Open was designed to be done anywhere in the world and was a two week competition where after completed, athletes then submitted their scores.
Now, after two events, we’re finally underway at the Granite Games championship and the first day of action is already looking interesting with athletes taking on a 7k train run. Thursday we will also see athletes take on a hill sprint and clean ladder. For more on what the event schedule will look like over the weekend you can check out the Granite Games website for full details.
The Granite Games also run at the same time as the CrossFit Lowlands Throwdown, another Sanctional™ event. The Lowlands Throwdown runs from May 31st until June 2nd and takes place at Omnisport, Apeldoorn, Gelderland, Netherlands. Between the Granite Games in the U.S. and the Lowlands Throwdown hyped up as one of the biggest CrossFit events in Europe, we have an exciting weekend of CrossFit ahead.
