Celia Balf
Celia is a Staff News Writer at BarBend. At the BarBend office, you can find Celia writing news stories covering the largest strength sport competitions in the world, in-depth features with world record-holders, big lifts, and everything in-between. Celia also orchestrates and helps create content for the BarBend social media pages.
She is a former Division 1 soccer player turned content producer and sports journalist. Her passion for storytelling came after she suffered multiple ACL injuries that kept her off the soccer pitch in college and long after. She used her time away from the game to explore content creation around sports, health, and fitness.
As an athlete her whole life, Celia enjoys the competitive thrill of journalism. She is not only passionate about breaking news, but also understands how to tell a complete story on all digital platforms.
Celia has over five years of journalism experience, appearing in Yahoo! Sports, Men’s Health, NWSLsoccer.com, FanSided, the Times Union, NCAA.com, and Excelle Sports. After graduating college in 2016, Celia moved to NYC to work as an Associate Editor for a women’s digital sports magazine, Excelle Sports. At Excelle she had her first experience covering strength sports during the Rio Olympic Games.
After Excelle Sports she gained experience as a social media editor at Major League Soccer and content production for the National Women’s Soccer League.
