The 2019 Wodapalooza Fitness Festival is taking place on January 18th and this year, there have been a few big changes.
For those unfamiliar, Wodapalooza is a CrossFit-like competition that takes place every year and in the past, it’s been a fun and challenging event for CrossFit® athletes and fucntional fitness enthusiasts to test their skills in a setting that’s separate to the Reebok CrossFit Games.
This year, Wodapalooza is, well, it’s still technically separate from the Reebok CrossFit Games — not a part of the competition, not affiliated with the competition, not run by CrossFit HQ.
However, after manyradicalchanges to the format of the CrossFit Games, it’s been announced that there will be fifteen Sanctional® events during the 2019 season, meaning that CrossFit HQ has decided that athletes who win (or perform well) at various fitness events can earn themselves a spot at the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games.
So even though it’s not technically connected to the Games, who wins Wodapalooza has quickly become a matter of even greater interest to CrossFit fans. The winning man, woman, and team will all receive an invite to the Reebok CrossFit Games in August.
Wodapalooza launched in 2012 with 150 athletes and this year’s even has grown to some 1,600 competitors, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. The paper also reported that one of the events will involve athletes searching for a 100-pound coupon on the park’s grounds for $500 worth of Second Skin fitness apparel, then lug it back to the brand’s booth to claim their prize.
We’re looking forward to seeing more of the events as Wodapalooza 2019 unfolds.
