CrossFit Mayhem Independence member and team captain Elly Kabboord, has tested positive for banned substance, Clenbuterol, at the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship in Iceland.
Kabboord is a three-time CrossFit Games competitor with CrossFit Mayhem, and first announced her positive result on CrossFit Mayhem’s YouTube channel with fellow CrossFit Mayhem athletes Jim Hensel and Rich Froning. This is the first time Kabboord has ever received a positive test result, and Froning even addressed at the beginning of the video how she has been tested numerous times.
Kabboord explained in the video when she found out about testing positive for Clenbuterol, which was about a month ago. She was riding the assault bike when she received an email.
“I called Rich immediately,” Kabboord said. “Never in my life taken a drug that was not prescribed to me, and I would never, Rich, Hilary, my teammates, and Mayhem family. They are my family and I would never in this universe jeopardize their futures, and that was really the hardest.”
Kabboord claims she was unfamiliar with Clenbuterol before her positive test.
“Clenbuterol is a very controversial drug,” Kabboord said. “There have been a lot of positive tests for contamination for meat and supplements. My results were less that one billionth of a gram, which is really, really small and is consistent with a meat or supplement contamination…that being said, I am one hundred percent responsible for everything that I put into my body.”
Kabboord also said that she requested two additional weeks from CrossFit to complete testing of everything Kabboord had put into her body. CrossFit denied her the two-week period.
“There are some details about this case that I think are paramount in exposing the truth that I can’t share right now,” Kabboord said.
