Emil Norling won the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) 2019 Junior World Classic Powerlifting Championships in the -105kg weight class with these stats:
- Squat — 312.5kg/689lb
- Bench Press — 195kg/430lb
- Deadlift — 355kg/783lb
- Total — 862.5kg/1,901.5lb
The 22-year-old Swede has placed first in every sanctioned event he has appeared in since 2017 — eleven total meets. His most recent victory came three months after Junior Worlds, on November 29th, at the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) European Classic Championships where he hit competition bests in every lift. Here were his stats from that meet:
- Squat — 327.5kg/722lb
- Bench Press — 200kg/441lb
- Deadlift — 360kg/794lb
- Total — 887.5kg/1957lb
At a mock meet in Sweden a few days ago, Norling breezed past his competition best bench press, deadlift, and total. Check out all of those lifts below in the video he shared on his Instagram page:

Here were the lifts he made at this mock meet:
- Squat — 320kg/705lb
- Bench Press — 202.5kg/446lb — 2.5kg/5.5lb heavier than competition best.
- Deadlift — 367.5kg/810lb — 7.5kg/16.5lb heavier than competition best.
- Total — 890kg/1,962lb — 2.5kg/5.5lb heavier than competition best.
Norling’s deadlift was particularly impressive because it was not only 7.5kg/16.5lb heavier than his competition best, but it was also only his fourth time ever deadlifting sumo. He said as much in the caption of the post:
Note: quotes have been translated from Swedish via Google Translate.
“Fourth time I’ve ever pulled sumo and it seems to work pretty well. Should take the opportunity to test it a little more now since it is so far until the next competition.”
If Norling’s training continues to enable him to hit numbers like he accomplished in this recent mock meet — and he finds new strength deadlifting sumo — then we are likely to see his winning streak continue for some time.
