There’s no shortage of seriously fit people over the age of 50. You’ve got NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, who’s maintained his bench-press prowess from his playing days, and then there’s 73-year-old powerlifter Mary Duffy, known for her 250-pound trap-bar deadlift from earlier in the year.
Another name to add to that list is actor Mark Wahlberg. The blockbuster star of The Departed (2006) and Uncharted (2022) recently took to Instagram to show off his sculpted six-pack and beefy biceps. It’s an impressive look for someone in their 20s or 30s, let alone a 51-year-old. Check it out:

In the August 31 post, Wahlberg hit a number of poses to show off his abs, chest, lats, and arms. The pictures garnered more than 470,000 likes since they hit the web, with one comment likening Wahlberg’s ageless physique to Benjamin Button, the fictional character who ages in reverse.
There and Back Again
If you follow Wahlberg, the fact that he’s in phenomenal shape isn’t surprising. He regularly posts videos about his daily workouts (yes, plural), and he isn’t shy about giving physique updates on a monthly basis.
What might surprise you, though, is that the actor purposely gained 30 pounds in 2021 to play an out-of-shape boxer named Stuart Long in the movie Father Stu. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Wahlberg said he had to eat 7,000 calories a day for two weeks and then 11,000 calories a day for four weeks to get the look of his character down.

According to the actor, meals typically included some combination of, “a dozen eggs, a dozen pieces of bacon, two baked potatoes, a Porterhouse steak, two bowls of white rice, and a glass of olive oil.”
But by the time the movie hit theaters in April 2022, Wahlberg was already diced up and looking as good as ever.
Wahlberg’s latest movie, Me Time, premiered on Netflix on August 26, 2022. In it, the actor’s lean physique is on full display, as you can see in the trailer above.
