7-Time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath to Join 2022 Olympia Commentary Team

The seven-time Mr. Olympia will be calling the action in Las Vegas.

The 2022 Olympia Weekend is scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 16-18, 2022, at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, NV. There have been many questions surrounding the role that seven-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath may have in the contest. Heath and the Olympia promoters answered those questions on July 16, 2022 when they jointly announced that Heath will be in the announcers’ booth calling the action as a part of the commentary team.

“The Olympia has meant so much to me and my legacy,” Heath said in the press release. “I’m always looking for new ways to connect with fans, and I’m grateful to Jake Wood, Dan Solomon, and the entire Olympia team for this opportunity. This year’s Olympia is loaded with incredible storylines and rivalries. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Vegas.”

Solomon is the current Olympia President but previously served as a commentator for the prestigious bodybuilding show for several years. Based on his experience and insight, Solomon told BarBend feels Heath’s participation will be a valuable one.

Phil is an exciting addition to the broadcast team. His opinions are built on years of competing at the highest level, and he’s not afraid to keep it real. I think the fans are going to enjoy his insight.

After turning pro in 2005, Heath made his Olympia debut in 2007, placing third to champion Dexter Jackson. Heath would win his first of seven straight titles in 2011. He placed second to new champion Shawn Rhoden in 2018, and placed third in his return to the stage in 2020. Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay won that contest, and 2019 Mr. Olympia champion Brandon Curry finished as the runner-up.

Heath’s seven Olympia wins ties him with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the second most in history. Ronnie Coleman and Lee Haney each have eight wins to their credit. Heath is considered the number one bodybuilder of the 2010s and is undoubtedly in the conversation of the greatest bodybuilders of all-time. In recent months, Heath has been focused on business ventures and promoting the sport of bodybuilding on numerous podcasts and interview shows.
