5 Big Performances From the 2019 USA Weightlifting National Championships

The 2019 USA Weightlifting National Championships wrapped up over the weekend with some big lifts.

The USA Weightlifting National Championships wrapped up over the weekend in Memphis, Tennessee. There were a ton of big performances that we wanted to a moment to highlight.

For starters, Sarah Robles has once again put on a show and won her seventh National title. The American heavyweight in the +87 kilogram went six-for-six, snatching 112kg and clean and jerked 140kg for a 252kg total.

Last month, Robles was named champion for the third year in a row at the Pan American Championships. Her performance in Guatemala was highlighted with three snatches of 118, 122, and 124 kilograms. For the clean and jerk she hit 152 and 155 kilograms for a total of 279 kilograms. Robles was part of the USA team that earned an historic 43 medals at the Pan Ams and along with those 43 medals, Team USA finished in first place in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The 2019 USA National Championships ran from May 9th to May 12th, and Robles’ victory was just one of the impressive lifts from the weekend.

Big Performances from the 2019 USAW National Championships

Hunter Elam — 59kg

USA weightlifter Hunter Elam had a stellar performance in the -59kg class. Elam was crowned national champion after crushing a 94 kilogram snatch, an 112 kilogram clean and jerk for a 206 kilogram total.

TJ Greenstone — +109kg

Some other highlights from the weekend included TJ Greenstone’s performance in the +109kg category. Greenstone became the only USA Weightlifting coach instructor to go six-for-six and become crowned a National champion. Greenstone snatched 160 kilogram and clean and jerked 207 kilogram for a 367 kilogram total.

Alexandra LaChance — 71kg

In the -71kg category, Alexandra Aurora LaChance took home the National champion title with a big 105 kilogram snatch and an 122 kilogram clean and jerk. She totaled 227 kilogram on the day.

Nathan Damron — 96kg

Nathan Damron was another athlete who put on the quite the show. Damron snatched 157 kilogram, clean and jerked 200 kilogram for a 357 kilogram total to win the -96kg National champion title.

Why the 2019 USAW National Championships Were Unique

This was the first time USA Weightlifting crowned National Champions under the new IWF weight classes. These new weight classes were introduced last July when the IWF approved new bodyweight categories for men and women in the senior, junior, and youth age divisions.
