One of the best-known and most successful CrossFit athletes of all time, Camille LeBlanc-Bazinet, has withdrawn from the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games.
News broke not long after 2:30pm CST on the very first day of the CrossFit Games after LeBlanc-Bazinet had competed in just two events. The CrossFit Games’ Facebook page first posted that she withdrew because of a dislocated shoulder. It appears that this injury occurred as she was tackling the Sprint O-Course, CrossFit’s brand new obstacle course.
The post reads,
Camille Leblanc-Bazinet 🇨🇦, already dealing with a shoulder injury, confirmed that she dislocated her shoulder in a fall on the o-course.
“I fell on it and it just came out. … I kind of wanted to puke. The adrenaline kicked in and I just put it back in.”
She was in tears at the finish line but better spirits back at the athlete tent.
“Now it feels really unstable.”
The eight-time CrossFit Games qualifier has withdrawn from the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games.
This injury would have taken place during the practice run-through of the obstacle course that took place earlier this week. Spectators may have noticed that her shoulder was taped up this morning and she was known to have been dealing with a torn labrum before arriving in Madison, so it appears that this injury wasn’t solely caused by the obstacle course.
Not long afterward, LeBlanc-Bazinet posted her own statement to her social media accounts that confirmed she had torn her labrum and dislocated her shoulder two weeks prior to starting at the Games.
It reads in part,
I rehab it the best I could and came into this weekend hoping to have a smooth weekend without bad luck…
my shoulder was feelling pretty okay going into competition but during the bike event my bike slipped and I fail on my bad shoulder and it came out again…
I was waiting after to see what would happen but it felt like it was coming out of its socket so I decided to pull myself out and try to get a speedy recovery instead of maybe maybe being able to compete a little bit and not at full capacity with a big chance to injure myself even more….
please don’t feel sorry for me this is just life and i guess it’s a 2 year plan this time… btw sorry to everyone who put me in their top 10 pick em from reebok 😂🙈
Having recently said in a Reddit AMA that she has “dedicated (her) life to CrossFit,” this is a serious blow for LeBlanc-Bazinet. The Quebec-born athlete has qualified to compete at the CrossFit Games eight times and came first place in 2014, earning her the title of the Fittest Woman on Earth™.
We wish her all the best and a speedy recovery.
