Weightlifter, bodybuilder, and author Jon North went into cardiac arrest yesterday; his wife — Jessica Lee North — posted an update on Instagram in the early hours of September 29th. North remains in the cardiac ICE pending further examination.
Prayers needed please. Jon had a cardiac arrest today, was brought back to life by the paramedics and rushed to the hospital. He is in the Cardiac ICU and we will be here for at least a week until they find out exactly what is wrong with his heart. Please pray for him that he comes to a full recovery and that his heart becomes strong and healthy again. I am thanking God every second that he saved my husband.
North rose to prominence as a young weightlifter, eventually becoming part of the California Strength team. He was USA Weightlifting National Champion in 2011, lifting in the men’s 94kg class. North was also a member of the men’s Pan American team in 2010, 2011, and 2013. He won the American Open in 2012 and has also won his class at the Arnold Weightlifting Championships twice.
During his weightlifting career, North gained a substantial following through his writing and social media, eventually compiling numerous essays and original copy into The Dark Orchestra, his first book. In the past two years, North has stepped away from full-time weightlifting and focused on pursuing a career in bodybuilding. He also runs an “Attitude Nation” seminar tour and hosts the “Weightlifting Talk” podcast with fellow lifter (and now functional fitness competitor) Jared Enderton.
In recent months, North had been preparing for another bodybuilding competition.
We — and we’re sure, the larger strength sport community — are wishing Jon and his family speedy recovery during this time.
