Kristi Eramo Declines Her Invite To The 2019 CrossFit Games

Eramo posted on her Instagram that she will not be competing at the Games.

Kristi Eramo, three-time CrossFit Games individual athlete has decided to decline her invitation to the 2019 CrossFit Games. Eramo posted on her Instagram the decision to not attend her fourth CrossFit Games.

“In one week, I will complete the last competition of my 2019 season,” she wrote. “I am excited to share with you that I have declined my invitation to compete at the 2019 CrossFit Games. There is not one specific reason why I have declined but multiple. Some may ask WHY!?! I believe that life is full of decisions. At times there may be things that serve you and there are times those things that once served you no longer do.”

“I absolutely worked my ass off this year in the Open to qualify after a longer off season than normal due to a major life event – Getting Married The first weekend of February and Honeymoonin right after! I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. I fought and I fought hard to earn my spot and prove I deserve to go back. Jumping into the season, I had one goal… make it back the the Games. Once I realized I had accomplished this goal, I started to search within and ask myself if this still served me for this season. After checking in with my body and my mind, I realized that this season may not be in the cards for me. My health and well-being come first. This year I am looking forward to taking a step back to let my body and mind heal and give myself a chance to exhale.”

A week ago, Eramo found out that she qualified for the Games. She posted on her Instagram then, too. She wrote about how her fourth invite seemed “a little less climactic than previous years! I’ll never forget that feeling of hearing my name called in 2016 for that 5th place spot. What a journey it has been.”

A week since receiving her invitation, Eramo’s decision to not attend wasn’t an easy one. In her most recent post, she also wrote:

“I am looking forward to being more present with my friends and family. I am looking forward to spending more time with my CrossFit Polaris athletes helping them achieve their goals as they have always supported me as I shoot for the stars to achieve my dreams.

This has been an extremely tough decision for me, but I believe it is the right one. Not spending the summer Games training will be a huge change as lately it is all I know. Change is scary but I am excited to take a step back for 2019. Thanks for all the love and support.”

Now that Eramo has declined her invite, this opens up another opportunity for an athlete to move up on the leaderboard and into the Games. There are still plenty of opportunities for competitors to earn their invitation to the Games as there are six CrossFit Sanctionals™ remaining.
