The final workout of the 2017 CrossFit Open season put athletes through a grueling 10-round couplet:
9 Thrusters – 95lbs men/65lbs women
35 Double-unders
10 rounds total in as little time as possible with a 40-minute time cap.
On Saturday night at the Reebok CrossFit Games in Madison, Dave Castro announced the evening’s Individual event will be a repeat of 17.5, only heavier, with the thrusters at 135 pounds for men and 95 pounds for women.
The Event time cap will be 12 minutes.

During Open season this past spring, Mat Fraser had the fastest time for the men with 6:24, and Madison Miller set the women’s pace to beat at 6:16. Fraser currently sits in first overall in the Men’s standings; to our knowledge, Miller is not competing in Madison.
The added weight will certainly mean a greater challenge for the athletes, though we anticipate seeing most of the Individual athletes — in both Male and Female divisions — finishing under the time cap; time caps on “For Time” as opposed to “As Many Reps As Possible” Open workouts tend to be longer to ensure a large percentage of participants can finish.
Fraser has taken a sizable lead in the Men’s division with 750 points. Ricky Garad sits in second with 616 points, followed by Brent Fikowski with 600 points. Noah Ohlsen sits in fourth with 696 points.
Heading into Saturday evening, the Individual Women’s standings are considerably tighter, with Tia-Clair Toomey sitting in first overall at 692 points; Kara Webb, Annie Thorisdottir, and Sara Sigmundsdottir are all tied behind her at 672 points apiece. Tennil Reed-Beuerlein sits in fifth with 670 points.
It’s still a tight race in Madison, and we’ll be watching through Sunday evening until new — or perhaps repeat — Champions are crowned.
