The talk going into the final day of Strength in Depth UK was more about the women’s side of the field. There were a few contenders at the top of the leaderboard with Laura Horvath in first place. Gabriela Migala and Haley Adams were hoping to spoil her Sunday plans and they had two chances to do so.
On the men’s side, Mat Fraser was clearly in the lead and many thought that he would continue his dominance on the final day, but Lukas Hogberg and Greece’s Giorgos Karavis were giving their all in the chance that Fraser made a mistake. Here is how Sunday’s events concluded.
“Tin Trail”
Workout 6 called for 4 rounds for time of rope climbs, handstand walks, and yoke carries. Fraser picked up exactly where he left off on Saturday and won the event with a time of 8 minutes and 53 seconds. Alex Kotoulas finished this event in 2nd place in 9:02. David Shorunke took 3rd and moved up the leaderboard. Hogberg concluded this workout in 11th place and Karavis struggled to a 48th place finish.
Thanks to this, Fraser clinched the overall victory before the final event started. So going into the final event, the only question was who would take the qualification to the CrossFit Games.
As for the ladies, Migala and Horvath finished 1, 2, respectively, so Migala was able to close the gap between them at the top of the leaderboard. Migala won the event in a little over nine minutes. Adams finished in third place overall.
21-15-9
The final workout of the competition included burning 21 calories on a ski machine, 15 bar facing burpees, and 9 overhead squats for time. Even though the four-time CrossFit Games champion didn’t need to even compete to take the overall win, Fraser did and won this one with a time of 1:42. Bronislaw Olenkowica was the runner-up with Harladur Holgersson rounding out the top 3. Shorunke finished 4th, concluded this contest as the overall runner-up, and since Fraser is already qualified for the Games, it appears Shorunke is the man who earned the trip to Madison.

On the women’s side, Horvath sealed up the win by taking first place in this workout with a time of 2:04. Kelsey Kiel took 2nd. Migala finished in third place and would finish the competition in the runner-up position. Adams leaves London in 3rd place overall. Kiel finished in 5th place overall but was also the highest finisher not yet qualified for the Games so the qualification here is hers.
