The 2018 IPF World Open Equipped Powerlifting Championships wrapped up in Halmstad, Sweden this past weekend, but we’ll be recapping the epic lifts in our heads for weeks to come. One of our favorites (and perhaps the most impressive lift of the entire competition)? American Bonica Brown’s jaw-dropping 318kg/701 pound back squat, good for a World Record for the +84kg weight category.
Check out the lift below.
Brown — no stranger to the international platform or the record books — finished with 318kg a squat (World Record), 215kg bench (a personal best for her), 250kg deadlift, and 783kg total (another World Record).
Brown’s 783kg total as a full 73kg above anyone else in her class. American Rebecca Holcomb finished in silver with a 710kg total, which included a win in the deadlift with 257.5kg. The two finished out a strong competition for the American women, who finished with the Team Championship ahead of Russia.
In the powerlifting world, Brown truly is a double threat, performing at an all-world level in both raw and equipped lifting. During June’s IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships, she walked away with World Records in every discipline, including a 671.5kg total.
