The 2022 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Classic Championships in Sun City, South Africa have been a non-stop spectacle of world records going to the slaughter. With a day left in the competition, new IPF raw world records have been hit in the Women’s 47-kilogram, 52-kilogram, 57-kilogram, and 76-kilogram classes, and in the Men’s 66-kilogram, 83-kilogram, and 93-kilogram classes.
Three IPF raw world records were scored in the Women’s 52-kilogram category, including a new IPF raw world record total of 438 kilograms (965.6 pounds) to win the gold for Noémie Allabert of France. The silver medal was awarded to Pleun Dekkers of the Netherlands, who scored an IPF raw squat world record of 168.5 kilograms (371.5 pounds). While Farhanna Farid of Singapore finished in seventh place overall via a 398-kilogram (877.4-pound) total, she left Sun City with an IPF raw deadlift world record of 200.5 kilograms (442 pounds).

After a 132.5-kilogram (292.1-pound) squat and a 65-kilogram (143.3-pound) bench press, Farid was well out of podium contention by the time athletes were ready to deadlift. However, it appeared Farid knew full well she was capable of claiming the IPF raw deadlift world record as she called for 197 kilograms (434.3 pounds) on the barbell — 1.5 kilograms over Joy Nnamani‘s previous world record — for her second attempt. Farid locked that out successfully and then upped the ante again on her third attempt.
With more than 200 kilograms on the barbell, Farid stepped onto the lifting platform, locked out the weight, and got the down signal from the judge, setting the IPF raw deadlift world record for the second time in one event. Check out that lift in the video below:
