The 2021 Kern US Open in San Diego, CA, was an absolute world record fest. Dan Bell hit a 505-kilogram squat in the super heavyweight division. Chad Penson claimed two records in the 90-kilogram division, and Hunter Henderson did the same in the women’s 75-kilogram class. Well, on April 25, 2021, in the women’s 90-plus-kilogram raw with wraps division, Sara Schiff was able to take sole possession of the deadlift world record with a successful lift of 287 kilograms (632.7 pounds).
Here are Schiff’s full stats for the meet:
- Squat — 235 kilograms (518 pounds)
- Bench Press — 130 kilograms (286 pounds)
- Deadlift — 287 kilograms (632.7 pounds), new ATWR
- Total — 652 kilograms (1,436 pounds)
The lift was the 46-year old’s final attempt of the meet, but it went up smoothly with only a slight delay at the lockout. She had opened with a successful attempt of 265 kilograms (584 pounds) and followed that up with another successful mark of 277.5 kilograms (611 pounds). Counting the final lift, Schiff pulled over 600 pounds twice in this meet. You can watch the record-setting lift in the video below around the 7:30:00 mark, courtesy of APEMAN STRONG on YouTube.

Schiff lifted in a conventional stance when attempting, as she normally does in competition. When the barbell was returned to the floor, the judges scored the lift with two white lights to one red. In powerlifting, if two of the three referees score the lift as good, it counts. She had gone two for three on squats, and she completed both of her bench press attempts. Schiff waved off her third bench press attempt. She then went three for three on the deadlift.
The previous record-holder was Jessica Springer, who managed to pull 285.8 kilograms at the American Powerlifting Federation (APF) Cincinnati Women’s Pro/Am event on April 11, 2021. This makes the second time that a new world record was set for this lift in April 2021. Schiff’s previous best deadlift was 275 kilograms, which she accomplished in November of 2019 at that year’s Southern Powerlifting Federation (SPF) Record Breakers contest.
