On Mar. 6, 2022, strongman athlete and World’s Strongest Man (WSM) finalist Kevin Faires made history during the first implementation of the Dinnie Stone carry at the Rogue Record Breakers (RRB) exhibition. Faires carried the stones with confidence right into a new world-record distance of 25 feet, eight inches.
Despite 2022 being the first year that Rogue decided to include a Dinnie carry in the RRB exhibition, Faires made massive strides in the contest and broke the previous record, held by Laurence Shahlaei, by almost 10 feet. Although Shahlaei had the previous record of 14 feet, 10 inches, he was unable to contend with Faires on the day.

Faires was the first athlete to partake in the Dinnie carry event and set the tone for the rest of the exhibition. He was the only athlete to clear the existing track distance that had been laid out for the competitors, and even carried the boulders several feet beyond the measuring tape.
The Dinnie Stones are a historic strongman implement. Named for Scottish strongman legend Donald Dinnie, the rocks weigh 414 pounds and 318 pounds, for a combined total weight of a whopping 733 pounds. It’s worth noting that only one authentic pair of Dinnie Stones exist, and the boulders that were used at the RRB exhibition are replicas.
Kevin Faires Strongman Career
32-year-old Kevin Faires has been active in strongman competitions since his first event, the U105 Strongman World Championships in 2016, according to Strongman Archives. Since then, Faires has attended the WSM competition thrice over and made the Finals once.
Of particular note, Faires won the Nicols Stones carry — two stones that weigh a total of 557.7 pounds — by carrying the weights just over 22 meters at the 2021 Giants Live World Tour Finals. His incredible strength in the loaded carry clearly benefited him at the RRB. Loaded carries, particularly with lopsided weights like the Dinnie or Nicols stones, require incredible grip strength and unilateral stability.
