Powerlifer Samantha Rice nearly captured a clean sweep of the world records in the 90-kilogram class after her performance at the 2023 USA-UA Pioneer on the Beach meet on April 8, 2023. The elite athlete went eight for nine on the day, scoring all-time world records in the squat, deadlift, and total. Below are her results:

According to Open Powerlifting, Rice’s new all-time squat world record eclipsed the previous record of 263.5 kilograms (580.9 pounds) set just over two weeks prior by Sherine Marcelle. Rice cracked the record by 6.5 kilograms on her second attempt and tacked an additional 10 kilograms onto that with her third attempt.
Rice did attempt a bench press world record, but it was not quite there. Had her third attempt of 160 kilograms (352.7 kilograms) been successful, it would have tied Viktoriya Knysh’s record, which has been held since 2016 and matched by Chakera Ingram in 2018. Rice still holds the third heaviest all-time bench press of 157.5 kilograms (347.2 pounds), scored at the 2022 USPA Hybrid Showdown 4.
Objectively, Rice annihilated the all-time world record total. Ingram held it at 671 kilograms (1,479.3 pounds) since January 2018. Rice packed 31.5 kilograms (69.5 pounds) onto that to become the first female 90-kilogram lifter to ever exceed the 700-kilogram milestone.
It seems as though records in competitive categories like the women’s 90-kilogram class don’t withstand too much time these days. If anyone intends to claim the all-time world record from Rice, they will have to become the second ever to lift past 700 kilograms.
