As one of the most consistent pro bodybuilders in the game, Ashley Kaltwasser must have advice on how she stays peaked for so much of the competitive bodybuilding season every year. After all, it is in her range to compete upwards of a dozen times in a single season and podium every time, like she did in 2022.
The three-time Bikini Olympia champion took to her YouTube channel on March 31, 2023, to share how she eats on competition day. Unlike what many might think is typical for pros at the highest level, Kaltwasser doesn’t cut any water until show day, when she sips up to a few liters. Yet, she still maintains paper-thin skin and tight conditioning during callouts for the judges. Check it out below:
Once it’s time to step on stage, bigger meals consisting of steak, potatoes, and broccoli are off the table. On show day, Kaltwasser keeps her meals light and calorically dense to maintain energy levels and satiety without bloating or distending the gut. She isn’t concerned about protein like she otherwise would during prep.
You’re not going to lose any muscle mass in a day. That’s not possible.

Meeting my goals are tastier than any burger and fries could be.
Kaltwasser avoids carbonated beverages to cut down on bloating but is conscious of staying hydrated and does drink coffee — she flashed a large Dunkin’ Donuts cup onscreen. Kaltwasser will pour electrolyte powders into her liquids to keep her muscles full and prevent cramping.
Kaltwasser has only competed once in 2023 as of this article’s publication: a fourth-place finish at the 2023 Bikini International. As a former Bikini Olympia champion, she has a lifetime qualification for the Bikini Olympia.
Since Kaltwasser doesn’t weigh the Olympia as heavily as competing consistently, we will likely see her on the stage several times before the 2023 Olympia on Nov. 2-5, 2023, in Orlando, FL.
