Check Out Tia-Clair Toomey and Brooke Wells’ First Day of Team Training

Toomey and Wells will team up with Ellie Turner at the 2022 Down Under Championship.

After winning her sixth consecutive CrossFit Games title in 2022, Tia-Clair Toomey racked up the accolade of the all-time winningest Individual CrossFitter in history.

However, her first foray back into competition* since the 2022 Games will be in the Teams division at the 2022 Down Under Championship on Nov. 18-20, 2022, at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, Australia.

On Sept. 20, 2022, Toomey took to her YouTube channel to share some behind-the-scenes action of her first day of Team training day alongside teammate Brooke Wells. For reference, their third teammate is Ellie Turner. Check out the training session below:

Note: The 2022 Rogue Invitational is scheduled for Oct. 28-30, 2022. Toomey is the reigning champion but has not been officially confirmed to compete in that contest as of this article’s publication.

As Wells wrote out the day’s workout on their whiteboard, which included bar muscle-ups, Toomey admitted to not having performed any since the final event of the 2022 CrossFit Games.

The workout, set up with a pyramid rep scheme, was as follows:

Three rounds:

  • 9 bar muscle-ups
  • 18 calories on the ski erg
  • 36 GHD sit-ups
  • 18 calories on the ski erg
  • 9 bar muscle-ups
  • Rest one-for-one — meaning an equal work-to-rest ratio.

Toomey humorously expressed wanting the video to end due to feeling gassed out before the conclusion of the workout — a nod to having taken time off to relax post-2022 Games.

The increased heart rate with higher intensity and a purpose (finishing faster for more rest time) led to Toomey getting pretty winded as she spoke to the camera.

While not shown in their workout write-up, Wells and Toomey also worked on the Assault bike and performed walking barbell lunges. They closed the workout on the exercise bike to give Toomey more time to get acclimated to her target heart rate. Cardio is a focus for Toomey to get back into competitive shape.

Toomey expects her renewed routine and healthier diet leading up to the 2022 Down Under Championship to get her back into that shape.

We’ll see how Toomey fares working with a team of fellow CrossFit Games competitors come the fall.
