2020 CrossFit Games Stage 1 Primer — Your Guide to Coverage
Stage One of the 2020 CrossFit Games starts in less than three weeks as 30 male and 30 female athletes prepare to square off in the first-ever remote Games competition. On Friday, September 18, athletes from twelve separate countries will vie for one of five spots to the in-person competition at the CrossFit Ranch on October 19-25.
There are still a number of unanswered questions pertaining to scoring, format, and number of workouts, but here’s what you need to know to stay in the know:
- CrossFit Games News Portal: The team will be updating this page on a daily basis with any new information we get. Bookmark this page.
- The roster: The 2020 CrossFit Roster consists of 30 men and 30 women, which is made up of the top 20 from the Open and 10 Sanctional invitees. As far as we know, this is the most up to date roster.
- Video analysis: Subscribe on YouTube or follow us on Instagram for our daily drop of analysis heading into stage one. Tommy Marquez will be breaking down his dark horse picks for the top 5, winners and losers, and his favorites to take those top spots. We’ll be dropping one video a day in the lead-up.
- Male Dark Horse Pick #1 — Chandler Smith
- Male Dark Horse Pick #2 — Jeffrey Adler
- Male Dark Horse Pick #3 — Samuel Kwant
- Judging: Each athlete is assigned an in-person judge who will be responsible for judging the athlete, verifying reps, evaluating and inspecting equipment, and verifying distances. Athletes were asked on a call if they had access to a 400-meter track and athletes were advised to have distance rollers on hand.
- Event Release Times: Athletes have been advised that workout details will be shared 48-hours in advance. It’s still unclear whether that means all workouts at once, each day, or and event-by-event release.
- Leaderboard: As soon as scores are official and in, they will be updated on our global leaderboard. Do yourself a favor and bookmark that page.
