2023 Games Rookie Rebecka Vitesson Continues Her Momentum into 2024

During the first two days at the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza, we all witnessed the tight battle for first between Emma Cary and Gabi Migala, but there was another woman who was having and impressive competition in her own right that may have been overlooked.

Swedish athlete Rebecka Vitesson finished fifth overall in a packed field. She had an average event finish of 9.3. 

She also had the highest finish among other 2023 Games female rookies who were present at Wodapalooza, including Olivia Kerstetter, Sydney Wells, Abigail Domit, and Emily De Rooy.

Vitesson finished 25th as a rookie at the CrossFit Games and it appears her time during the off-season has been used effectively.

One of the New Faces of Scandinavia?

Throughout the past decade, Norwegian women have represented the Scandinavian region impressively as athletes like Kristin Holte, Jacqueline Dahlstrom, and Matilde Garnes have 13 combined Games appearances.

Sweden, however, has been making strides and in fact, Rebecka Vitesson along with her fellow Swedish women Emma Tall and Ella Wunger contributed to Sweden having one of their best years ever at the CrossFit Games.

These three women had a combined eight top 10 event finishes, including an event win in “The Alpaca Redux” from Emma Tall.

Not the First Time, Not the Last Time

Although Vitesson was an individual rookie at the 2023 Games, she had already been there twice in 2017 and 2018 in the team division as part of Team Fabriken.

Judging by Vitesson’s stellar performance at TYR Wodapalooza this week, it looks like she has what it takes to compete with the best in the sport, not just for a middle-of-the-pack position, but actually for a top spot.

From what we were able to see in Miami, she doesn’t seem to have any glaring weaknesses and has impeccable snatch technique that will continue to come in handy throughout the season.

As the Open kicks off the official start of the season next month we will be able to see how Vitesson looks compared to the rest of the world.
