Over the weekend, powerlifter Stacy Burr had what could be described as a meet of a lifetime. Burr took the platform to compete in the 148 lb weight class at the RPS Braggin’ Rights meet held in Greenville, North Carolina. She competed in the wraps division and set two all-time world records and closely missed breaking the highest all-time Wilks Score.
To kick off her near all-time Wilks shattering performance, Burr finished her squats with an all-time world record 247kg/545 lb lift. This feat tops Rheta West’s 242kg/535 lb all-time squat record from 2016. Check out the amazing fight Burr put into the lift below.
Moving onto the bench press, Burr hit a very smooth (and impressive) 144.5kg/319 lb bench press.
Now onto her deadlift, aka the lift that could have sealed Burr’s name at the very top of the all-time Wilks Score. For her second attempt, Burr completed an easy 237kg/523 lb deadlift, which earned her an all-time world record total of 630kg/1,390 lbs. Then going into the third deadlift, Burr had two options: Play it safe and hit a 1,400 lb total, or take 254kg/562 lbs for a ride and attempt to break Marianna Gasparyan’s all-time Wilks Score.
If you know Burr, then you can probably guess what she chose. In part of Burr’s deadlift Instagram video’s caption she writes, “I needed 562 on the bar to break the highest all time wilks score and secure that #1 ranking bag.So we loaded the bar. The most I have ever pulled was 535, but I knew I had it in me. Because of the work I had done.
I knew what I came here to get and if that was the number I needed- that is what I wanted on the bar. Playing it safe has never really been my thing. All or nothing. I had already secured the WR total on the second pull so I wanted it all, not a padding or just a prettier total.”
Unfortunately, Burr came up just short of completing the pull, but if you ask us, her miss wasn’t by too much and we don’t think it will be long until 254kg/562 lbs is a routine competition lift for her. While Burr may have fell just short of breaking the all-time Wilks Score, she still walked away with two all-time world records — not a bad day if you ask us!
