In the latest installment of monstrous conventional deadlifts, British powerlifter Tom Martin is back to moving mountain sized weight. And now, we’ve seen Martin pull big weight before, so more than likely if you’re already a Martin fan, then the video below with weight of this magnitude is probably nothing new for you.
What makes this video so huge compared to others in the past is Martin’s bodyweight and the weight itself, which has significance in terms of Martin’s past competition attempts. In Martin’s latest video he deadlifts a massive 405kg (892 lbs) at a bodyweight of 103kg, which is only 3kg off his most recent 100kg bodyweight for competition, which was at a meet in late June.
For further context about this weight’s significance, in Martin’s video’s Instagram description he writes, “405kg deadlift at 103kg bw. Failed this in both my last 2 comps…”
In addition to previously missing this weight at past competitions, this weight is only 10kg shy of his all-time PR of 415kg, which he set back February when he totaled this insane 1,001kg mock meet total PR. Keep in mind, this total came only 7-months after a serious bicep tear.
At his last meet in June, Martin ended up hitting a 365kg squat, 205kg bench press, and 400kg deadlift, which earned him a total of 965kg. In his video’s description he explains these numbers importance by writing,
“I haven’t been in this weight class for about 18 months now, and last time I did, I attempted these exact numbers for what would have been a world record total, falling short on all of them and finishing with 932.5kg. I’m glad I went back to finish this off, though it only puts me 3rd on the all time rankings this time around, behind @belkin_one_power and @oakstrong.”
In our opinion, the tone of that description definitely describes an elite athlete who has unfinished business for that weight class. We’re pumped to see Martin’s next meet as he edges closer to the world record, and potentially topping the all-time ranks.
