Powerlifter Joe Sullivan (100 KG) Squats 385 Kilograms (848 Pounds) to Break His Own All-Time Raw World Record

Sullivan technically set two ATWRs at the 2022 USPA Raw Pro

How’s your weekend going? Good? Joe Sullivan’s is probably going better. At the 2022 USPA Raw Pro, taking place on Sept. 24, 2022, the powerlifter squatted 385 kilograms (848.8 pounds) at the North Kansas City, MO, meet for a new All-Time Squat World Record in the 100-kilogram division. Check out the lift in the clip below:

The 29-year-old weighed 99.9 kilograms (219 pounds) and opened the meet with a squat of 365 kilograms (804.8 pounds). He then set his first of two new records with a lift of 381 kilograms (840 pounds). After a slow descent, Sullivan came up at a steady pace before racking the weight. He received two white lights for the lift. One of the side judges called him for depth.

Sullivan then called for four more kilograms and executed his squat smoothly. Once again, he received two white lights for the lift.

The new and current record breaks his own mark of 380 kilograms (837.7 pounds), which he set one year ago at the 2021 WRPF Bucked Up Showdown in Kansas City, MO, on Sept 25, 2021. This is also Sullivan’s first meet since then.

In a post-squat interview on the livestream (see below), Sullivan says he took time away from competing due to nerve damage that limited his ability to engage his lat. He appeared to handle the weights for all three attempts well, calling the three squats “routine” in the interview.

“I pride myself on technique as well as execution under pressure,” he said on the livestream. As of this writing, he hadn’t completed the bench press and deadlift portions of the meet.

Sullivan’s records were the second and third world records on the day. Samantha Rice (90 KG) also set the All-Time Raw Squat World Record for her division with a lift of 257.5 kilograms (567 pounds).
