Martins Licis Trains with Super Bowl Champion Vernon Davis

They teamed up for a workout in a video.

2019 World’s Strongest Man Martins Licis may not be defending his title this year, but he’s still training to prepare for whenever he will compete again. He usually trains with his friend and business partner, Romark Weiss. In a recent YouTube video, Licis was also joined by former NFL Player and Super Bowl 50 Champion Vernon Davis.

Davis is no stranger to being the subject of attention when it comes to fitness. In 2016, he was named one of the 20 Fittest Athletes in the NFL by Sports Illustrated. He had been admired for his dedication to training as well as his physique throughout his career going back to college.

Aside from his championship from Denver, he also was a two-time Pro Bowl player. As for his training accomplishments, he had performed a top bench press of 435 pounds (197 kg) for a single. He performed 36 reps with 225 pounds (102 kg) on the bench at the NFL Combine in 2006. He also ran a 4.39 40-yard dash.

The training that the two did together was somewhat new to Davis. Licis worked with him on zombie squats. While the two work through mastering the form, Davis speaks about how impressed he was by Licis.

“I’ve seen some huge guys, but he’s one of a kind. He’s special. He can really move. I like the way he bends. He can do it all. It’s pretty amazing to see that.”

Davis worked up to a top weight of 176 pounds (80 kg) while Licis finished with 220 pounds (100 kg).
After some discussion and Davis showing his abs, Licis performed an overhead human squat with Davis. After the squat, Davis said that he weighed 240 pounds (109 kg). He isn’t even the first tight end that Licis has hoisted over his head. He had previously performed overhead squats with now Tampa Bay Buccaneer Rob Gronkowski.

The two also performed standing overhead dumbbell presses for shoulders. Following those were single arm planks and then they transitioned into what Licis called his “weakness”, bench pressing. Licis didn’t include footage of them performing that exercise. They concluded with incline dumbbell press.

Licis’ channel is growing in popularity over the last few months. As of this writing, the video with Davis had over 17,000 views in less than 24 hours.
