The Second Rogue Challenge Is Here — “The Cliffhanger Challenge”
On Feb. 22, 2021, Rogue Fitness announced the second Rogue Challenge of the year — “The Cliffhanger Challenge.” Per the caption from Rogue’s Instagram post, the goal of the challenge is simple: hang from a pull-up bar for a long as possible. Competitors must be in a dead hang position, which is simply hanging with straight arms from an overhead bar. As was the case with the announcement of the first Rogue Challenge back on Nov. 30, 2020, “anyone, anywhere, is welcome to sign-up and compete for a spot on the leaderboard.”
The second challenge will be an intense test of grip strength. Unlike the first Rogue Challenge, which consisted of burning 50 calories on a Rogue Echo Bike as fast as possible, the second Rogue Challenge is one of endurance and willpower rather than heart rate and speed. Registration for the challenge begins on Friday, Feb. 26, 2021. The challenge starts the following week on Friday, March 5, and will last until Monday, March 8.

Rogue Challenge
The first Rogue Challenge was announced as a way to move their Rogue Record Breakers (RRB) events online. On Feb. 1, 2021, they announced the “The Bear Hug Challenge,” which, although similar in approach and style, Rogue Fitness did not deem that as the second challenge in the series.
“The Bear Hug Challenge” consisted of men holding a 90.7-kilogram (200-pound) sandbag with a top and bottom diameter between 14 and 18 inches and circumference between 48 and 55 inches from a height of 14 to 17 inches off the ground. Women had to hold a 68-kilogram (150-pound) bag with the same size requirements as the men from a height between 11 and 14 inches off the ground.
The Cliffhanger Challenge will require a timer (gym clock, iPhone, stopwatch, etc.) to be in the frame while recording the challenge. The only requirements for the pull-up bar are that it be a metal shaft straight bar (angled bars are not allowed) without knurling and have a minimum diameter of 1.125 inches or 3.53-inch circumference.
Prize Payout
The prize payout is the same for both men and women:
- First Place — $2,500 and a Rogue Anvil Grip (valued at $95)
- Second Place — $1,000 and a Dinnie Ring Set (valued at $45)
- Third Place — $500 and Rogue Cannonball Grips (valued at $47.25)
Additionally, the top three gyms — ranked by most members who sign up for the challenge — will receive the following:
- First Place — Rogue Anvil Grip
- Second Place — Dinnie Ring Set
- Third Place — Rogue Cannonball Grips
In the event of a tie, the athlete with the heavier bodyweight is the winner.
Details regarding the video submission standards will be released on Thursday, March 4, 2021. Prospective athletes that would like to participate in the Cliffhanger Challenge can register on Feb. 26, 2021, on the registration page.
