This year, two-time CrossFit Games champion Katrin Davidsdottir became the first CrossFit athlete to be represented in ESPN’s “Body Issue”. Now, all of the photos, Davidsdottir’s story, and the behind the scenes video are all live.
This is a big moment for CrossFit as a sport to be recognized in the “Body Issue”, which has featured some of the biggest athletes across a wide range of sports for 11 years. Davidsdottir has been sharing some of the photos from the shoot over the past day, and she wrote,
Every BODY has a story. Mine tells the story of HARD WORK. So honored I get to be a part of the 2019 ESPN Body Issue.
ESPN wrote that Davidsdottir “embodies the Icelandic warrior,” and in the story published yesterday, Wright Thompson brings the reader on the scene to the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games where Davidsdottir was competing just one month ago. At this year’s Reebok CrossFit Games, Davidsdottir finished in fourth place.
The photos and the behind the scenes video from the shoot were also released yesterday. Check out the full behind the scenes video below:
“You can have a gymnast who’s the best at the world, and you have a shot-putter, a runner, and a wrestler…you have all these amazing bodies that are the best in the world at what they do and they look totally different, but also magnificent in their own way. This means the world to me that I get to represent one of those bodies.” (0:35)
In just one month, another CrossFit Games Open season begins, and Davidsdottir is still hungry to be the best in the world. She was crowned The Fittest Woman on Earth in 2015 and 2016, and she is far from done. Her body is a testament to the years of hard work that she has dedicated to CrossFit, and we can’t wait to see what this new season has in store for her.
“My body is what I put into it, it’s the hard work I put into it. And my muscles are all the repetitions day and day out I’ve done since I was a little kid. I’m so proud of that, and that did take me some years.”
