The latest episode of the World’s Ultimate Strongman “Feats of Strength” series featured the second running of a previous event but with two new competitors. Adam Bishop and Jean-Francois Caron took part in a contest involving deadlifting 400 kg (882 pounds) for reps. Like the other episodes in the series, it was streamed on CoreSports World and the Rogue Fitness YouTube channel. When all was said and done, they tied with four reps each, so neither man was able to break the record of five.
The previous running of this event on June 20th showcased Jerry Pritchett and Rauno Heinla. Heinla won that contest by a count of 5 reps to 4. Heinla tied the record for most reps performed in 75 seconds with the weight but was unable to break it.
Unlike the last contest which saw both competitors compete at the same time, each man took his own turn in this running. Bishop started and was able to perform 4 reps in the first 25 seconds of his time but was unable to secure the fifth. Caron went second and tied Bishop. When he attempted the fifth rep, he appeared to suffer a leg injury before the bar reached his knees.
Both men are renowned for their strength in this lift which is why they were matched up against each other. Caron recently celebrated his 38th birthday and is one of the men who shares this record. He performed five reps with 400 kg at the 2017 Giants Live World Tour Finals. The other is Konstantine Janashia who performed the same number of reps at the same contest. Caron is the 2019 Arnold Strongman Canada Champion and has won Canada’s Strongest Man title on nine different occasions. He placed 4th at the World’s Strongest Man 2019 contest and the 2020 Arnold Strongman Classic.
The 31 year old Bishop is the 2020 Britain’s Strongest Man Champion and placed 9th at the WSM contest last year which was his highest finish at that contest to date. In May, he posted a video of himself performing the 18 inch deadlift with 1,200 pounds (544.2 kg). He is no stranger to world records with this weight because he holds the record in the 400 kg frame carry for 20 meters in the fastest time with a time of 8.26 seconds.
As with the other head-to-head matchups in this series, the locations and times of the competitors makes the event more interesting. At the time of online showdown, it was late afternoon in the UK where Bishop was competing while it was right past noon local time in Caron’s native Quebec. They also were allowed to use different plates so long as they were weighed and approved by Zadrunas Savickas who served as the judge for this event.
