On the final day of the 2018 Arnold Classic, Rogue Fitness held their annual Record Breakers event. At this event, strongman athletes are invited to break a variety of records for the prize of $5,000 USD and a submission into the Guinness Book of Records.
This year, a couple world records fell at the event and one of those came from Arnold Strongman Classic winner Hafthor Bjornsson. Their were four record breaking events scheduled for the day, which included: Weight over bar, Cyr dumbbell, Steinborn Squat, and Slater Stones.
To kick off the event, Bjornsson had the opportunity to break the weight over bar world record. In order to break this record, Bjornsson had to swing a 56 lb bell and clear a height of 20′. The previous record was also held by Bjornsson when he cleared 19.5′ at the Loon Mountain Highland Games in New Hampshire back in September 2017.
Coming off the high of a win, 6′ 9″ Bjornsson took to the stage repping his country’s colors and a kilt to throw the weight of a six year old 20′ into the air.
Needless to say, Bjornsson crushed the world record and will be seeing his name again in the Guinness Book of Records later this year. This weekend, the stars seemed to align for this professional strongman.

We mentioned it above, but Bjornsson held the previous record of 19.5′ and we wanted to embed the clip below, so you can have more context into how good he his at this event. If you ask us, we think the 20′ record looked easier than the 19.5′
Bjornsson has stated multiple times that 2018 would be his year. With his first ever Arnold Strongman Classic win, a new world record, and a burning work ethic, it’s going to be interesting to see how the rest of his season progresses. His next stop is Europe’s Strongest Man in early April.
