Some days you visit YouTube and you’re pleasantly surprised with a video that falls perfectly in your interests, hooray algorithm. At least, that’s exactly how I stumbled onto this awesome feature highlighting Maral Javadifar — and it’s certainly worth re-sharing.
About two weeks ago, the NFL Media Originals YouTube channel shared a fantastic video shining light on the work that Maral Javadifar is putting in with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In March of 2019, Javadifar was hired on by the Buccaneers to work as one of their Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coaches. At the same time, the Buccaneers also hired on Lori Locust as an assistant defensive line coach, which made NFL history as being the first NFL team with two full-time female coaches.
The video below is awesome, and if you’re at all interested in the NFL or strength & conditioning, I’d highly recommending watching it. It features a ton of great interview content with Javadifar, Chris Godwin (Buccaneer’s wide receiver), and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Anthony Piroli.
“As long as you can do your job at your highest level, and to the level the organization need you to do it at, then you should have the opportunity to do so. To the young women and young girls out there — I want them to know that they need to put in the work, sweat, and the grind, and sometimes the tears [and that’s okay] to pursue whatever goal and dream that they have — and even if it’s a dream one day, like it was for me, it can be a reality on another day.” – Maral Javadifar
As for Javadifar’s background, she has a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and she completed her Sports Physical Therapy Residency at Virginia Commonwealth in August of 2018.
In the video, they highlight how Javadifar’s main motivation to dive into physical therapy when she did was after she sustained an injury playing basketball. She points out in the video that the rehab process she underwent was slow and not individualized, and she wanted to change it and do it better.
We think it’s pretty safe to say that Javadifar has done a phenomenal job at changing the norms around her for the better.
