The women’s 90-kilogram weight class is soon in for a battle of the best. Sherine Marcelle took to her Instagram page on Aug. 28, 2022, to share a video wherein she hit a lifetime personal record (PR) raw squat of 257.6 kilograms (568 pounds) for two reps. Not only is that a massive double, but it is also 1.6 kilograms more than the current all-time raw squat scored by Amanda Lawrence at the 2020 USA Powerlifting (USAPL) Gainsgiving Open.
Marcelle wore knee sleeves and a lifting belt for the massive squat double. Her caption on the post suggests that she wasn’t initially intending for this to be a double but was dissatisfied with her depth on the first rep. She ran it back for a second rep, where she went lower in the hole and achieved a lifetime PR at the lockout. Check it out below, as Marcelle hoists the barbell out of the squat rack and moves through each rep surrounded by three spotters:

Sherine Marcelle’s Powerlifting Career
Since making her competitive powerlifting debut at the 2016 Raw Powerlifting Syndicate (RPS) 18th Annual PowerPalooza at the age of 23, Marcelle has appeared in 11 sanctioned meets. Of those 11, she has only missed the podium a single time — a fourth-place finish at the 2017 Xtreme Powerlifting Coalition (XPC) Finals. She has eight gold medal finishes and a pair of silver medal finishes, including her most recent performance at the 2022 World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) Ghost Clash.
Marcelle’s best competitive raw squat is a 245-kilogram (540.1-pound) lift scored at the 2021 United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) New York State Championships on Nov. 13, 2021. It is the third heaviest squat ever in the women’s raw 90-kilogram class, according to Open Powerlifting. Her recent lifetime squat double PR is 12.6 kilograms (27.8 pounds) heavier and was hit just over nine months later — her training is paying off.
When Marcelle chooses to compete next, don’t be shocked if she calls for world record weight on the barbell. Although she did not disclose her body weight during her lifetime PR, she is capable of contending for the world record.
