Zack George Withdraws From 2021 CrossFit Games Season
Unfortunate news from the 2020 UK Fittest Man®, Zack George. Due to a hip injury sustained while performing burpee box-jump overs during CrossFit Open workout 21.2, George has withdrawn from the 2021 CrossFit Games season.
He made the announcement via his Instagram page on April 9, 2021, after consulting with his team. Although George received daily treatment for the hip, his squat movement has been off, and he says pulling out of the competition is to ensure he does not exacerbate the injury any further.

“I was meant to go to the CrossFit Games in 2020 which didn’t happen due to COVID and now my 2021 season has come to an abrupt end. Challenges are never easy to accept, especially when you spend each and everyday training to accomplish a single goal, but I have come to accept that some things in life are simply out of my control and, unfortunately, this is one of those things. For now, I will use this setback to motivate the people who follow me to never give up on a goal, whatever obstacle they may be facing.”

Even though he sustained his hip injury during workout 21.2, the 31-year old George did finish all four workouts across the three-week-long Open. He finished 189th overall with the following scores:
- 21.1 — 1,999th place, 519 reps
- 21. 2 — 414th place, 10:47
- 21. 3 — 138th place, 8:54

His scores were sufficient to rank 59th in Europe, well into the top 10 percent threshold to advance to the Quarterfinals.
George stated his intent to recover from this injury and compete again in the 2022 CrossFit season.
