Carolyne Prevost earned the call-up to represent CrossFit Mayhem Independence at the French Throwdown this upcoming weekend in Paris, France.
Prevost and CrossFit Mayhem Independence will be competing for their final chance to earn an invite to the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games. The French Throwdown is the last competition ahead of the Games, so CrossFit Mayhem Independence will be putting it all on the line to earn their team invite to compete alongside and against CrossFit Mayhem’s other team, CrossFit Mayhem Freedom.
Prevost earned her spot after news came out that CrossFit Mayhem Independence’s team captain Elly Kabboord failed a drug test at the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship. Kabboord tested positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol, and announced the news on YouTube. Kabboord, a three-time CrossFit Games competitor will sit out this weekend, while Prevost joins the squad after finishing 14th overall in this year’s Open.
Kabboord is already qualified for the Games as an individual athlete (by finishing 14th in the Open), but will gear up to help Mayhem Independence!
Prevost posted on her Instagram after completing her first day of training with the squad. She wrote,
“Great first day with the new squad testing out French Throwdown workouts. The worm is new to me but I kind of like it. Love the team work needed for it. Looking forward to more practice and preparation before the comp.”
Prevost is a well-rounded athlete that has experience competing at some of the highest levels in many sports. She currently plays professional hockey for the Toronto Furies in the Canadian Women’s Hockey league (CWHL), and also played soccer for a premier team in Toronto. Additionally she has represented Canada’s national hockey and Taekwondo teams.
The final roster for the 2019 CrossFit Games is almost set. After this weekend, when the French Throwdown wraps up on Sunday, June 30th, we’ll be sure to update you as to who has made the final rosters for the Games starting August 1st.
