Interactive connected fitness leader iFit is hosting its first-ever live-streamed workout, “A Sunrise Trek on Everest,” on March 22, starting at 8 p.m., ET — sunrise in Nepal — from Mt. Everest.
To stream the Live Workout, iFit’s 4.7 million members will be able to tap the “On Air” icon on the iFit user interface of the iFit-enabled equipment or the iFit app. Then, up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the live workout, they should choose “A Sunrise Trek on Everest.” Beginning March 16, members can add the workout to their iFit schedule.

The workout is also available to non-members through a 30-day free trial of the iFit app. It can be accessed on IOS and Android. Once they download the app to their phone or tablet, the only thing non-members need to do is click the “On Air” icon. That will allow them to join up to 10 minutes before the workout goes live.
“Patented interactive technology allows iFit Trainers to lead iFit members through immersive workouts that automatically adjust the incline, decline, speed, and resistance of their equipment,” said Colleen Logan, VP of Marketing at ICON Health & Fitness.

As technology has advanced, at-home gyms have, too. Since you no longer need a giant space to store all the equipment that will help you pull off home workouts, NordicTrack’s putting this reality front and center with the new NordicTrack Vault.
More Details On “The Trek”
During the roughly 30-minute virtual hike, viewers will be led up Kala Patthar, an iconic trail at 18,300 feet with dramatic views of Everest’s summit. iFit’s patented, LiveAdjust technology, will automatically adjust a treadmill’s incline and decline to mirror the trail’s actual terrain. Capacity for the workout will be limited because of limitations with streaming capabilities inherent to the remote and high-attitude Mt. Everest region.
Leading the workout will be iFit guides and Everest-experienced guides and mountaineers Kenton Cool, Lydia Bradey, and Ang Tshering Lama.
Following the live workout, “A Sunrise Trek on Everest ” will be added to iFit’s on-demand workout library.
“In addition to the workouts, members can look forward to learning about the history and culture of Nepal as they soak up the scenery and make their way to Mt. Everest Base Camp,” said Logan.
Preparing for Launch
Meantime, at 8 PM, ET, on March 21, iFit will stream an Instagram Live Q&A session from Mt. Everest Base Camp. Through Instagram and Facebook, viewers will submit questions for Cool, Bradey, and Lama.
A 12-person iFit team now is on location on Mt. Everest, filming an 18-part workout series, “Everest: A Trek to Base Camp.” The series, scheduled to release late spring, consists of steady-state cardio treks with New Zealand mountaineer and Everest summiteer.
iFit’s founding revolves around consumers and the belief that the home based interactive, personal training experiences would pay big dividends for them.
