We’ve been on the Michael Estrella hype train since his insane performance at the Boss of Bosses 6 powerlifting meet over the weekend. Estrella competed in the 148lbs weight class and deadlifted 4.5 times his bodyweight for an astonishing all-time world record of 303kg/668 lbs.
That weekend earned him two new all-time world records, for his deadlift and total. Check out his lifts from the Boss of Bosses 6 powerlifting meet below:
What we were definitely not expecting was to see him break that world record just three days later.
OK, he broke it unofficially, but he exceeded it nonetheless: Estrella casually pulled 317.5kg/700lbs and shared it on his Instagram page this Wednesday, even giving fellow powerlifter Jamal Browner a shoutout for the post-meet ‘you-only-live-once’ [yolo] training session.
Estrella wrote,
I blame [Jamal Brownder] for this. I left BoB6 [Boss of Bosses 6] still wondering if I had 700lbs in me and I’m happy to report that it’s a definite YES.
Browner competed in the 275lbs weight class at the Boss of Bosses 6 meet and fresh off winning the meet with a 749.5lbs squat, a 474lbs bench press, and a 821.2lbs deadlift for a 2044.8lbs total, he went ahead and pulled 1015lbs. Like Estrella, he beat his deadlift from the meet just a few days after competing. Browner seems to have started a trend — we’re quietly hoping that other competitors from this weekend will show off some big lifts this week.
