Over the weekend, powerlifter Amanda Lawrence made waves at the USA Powerlifting Med City Raw Open held in Rochester, Minnesota. Lawrence took the platform in the women’s -84kg weight class, and put up some crazy impressive numbers despite only going 5/9 on the meet.
Potentially, Lawrence’s biggest lift from the meet was her 225kg (495 lb) squat, which is an unofficial IPF world record, and is a new American -84kg record. In addition, Lawrence only closely missed her 227.5kg (501 lb) third attempt squat.
In her Instagram video’s description she writes about her meet saying, “I ended up going 5/9 (lol) with an unofficial AR/WR squat at 496lb/225kg, then a 501lb/227.5kg deadlift, and a 220lb/100kg bench. My total PR (by 25kg) was 552.5kg @ 83.3kg BW, calculating to a 494.76 Wilks PR (by 20 points)! Definitely not the biggest total that I could’ve put out, but pretty good given the circumstances of a car crash the night before, no sleep, and a last minute weight cut.”
As for her misses (outside of the third squat attempt miss discussed above), Lawrence wrote that she missed both her second and third bench presses at 105kg (231 lbs) and her second deadlift attempt at 227.5kg (501 lbs) due to her hook grip failing. We’ve seen Lawrence deadlift 238kg (525 lbs) before, so we’re confident that the missed second deadlift was not a strength issue whatsoever.
The next time Lawrence is set to take the platform will be at USAPL Raw Nationals, which are taking place in October this year in Spokane, Washington. As of right now, she’s deloading from her last meet, then picking back up her training where she left off.

In relevant news, at the 2018 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships, Daniella Melo (-84kg) had a record shattering performance, aka one of Lawrence’s biggest competitors at Raw Nationals. It’s going to be awesome to watch these two elite athletes go head-to-head as Raw Nationals approaches.
